I like to work with political & social issues challenging the viewers’ thinking in relation to the current state of the world. However, I find the need to divert from time to time, as the state of the world can be a bit depressing, so I move to abstracts. One would image abstracts to be easier, yet I find them just as challenging sometimes even more so, when there’s nothing concrete to draw from just a feeling it can be quite difficult to relay the emotion adequately on canvas or paper. I love to work in a variety of mediums. I tend to stay with canvas & paper mostly, yet wood & metal bring a unique dimension to certain subjects, so occasionally I go sculptural.
I graduated from Albion College, Suma cum Laude, with Bachelors in Fine Art. I split my time between my family, creating art, and teaching Yoga at Albion and Olivet Colleges. I have lived in Northern England, Germany, and the Mid-West and East Coast of the USA. My work has been in a variety of shows and competitions both in the U.S. and Europe. I also have a piece in the Holocaust Museum in Detroit.
I was the Artist in Residence at the Calhoun County Juvenile Home for six years. I have a lovely husband, four wonderful kids, three dogs, chickens and a number of cats. I have a studio at home in Albion and in Marshall, MI.
